Tackling
labour market disadvantage
LMS have particular knowledge and expertise in relation to analysis of
those most disadvantaged in the labour market.
This includes work relating to:
• the labour market destinations and career routes of young people
in particular disadvantaged localities
• labour market barriers faced by different groups
• the development of employment support strategies for particular
vulnerable groups (such as the homeless)
• localised profiles of labour market disadvantage
• mapping of unemployment and those out of work and the use of bespoke
data sets (such as the use of internal Jobcentre Plus data and local agency
data on vulnerable young people)
Much of this work has been used to inform practical policies to tackle
labour market disadvantage and support the more effective planning and
targeting of services at a local level.
